Flipkart leads exclusivity race with a cheaper new MotoG

After selling over 1.6 million units of Motorola phones in the past seven months, leading online retailer Flipkart has launched three new Motorola products exclusively on its website.

The new advanced MotoG , the new MotoX and a new Moto360 smartwatch will be sold exclusively through the website.
Flipkart's strategic tie up with leading smart phone brands like Chinese Xiaomi and Motorola has proved to be a success story both for the mobile manufacturers and Flipkart which crossed one billion gross merchandise sales volume earlier in February.
The new MotoG will be priced a thousand rupees less than the earlier version and will be sold at Rs 12,999. The phone will be up for sale from midnight today. The other two products will be launched later this month.
?This time we have taken lessons from our past experience and we are ready the required technology to process thousands of transactions in a minute and we have adequate volume to cater to the first tranche of demand,? said Michael Adnani, Vice President-Retail & Head-Strategic brand Alliances, Flipkart.
US based Motorola has also seen a breathed a fresh life since the launch of MotoG in February. In less than a year of re-entering the Indian market, it has become the fourth-largest smart phone seller in the country, according to Canalys's report on the smartphone market in India. This is despite the fact that the company has been selling its lead products only through the sole e-commerce channel of Flipkart.
Sources close to the company reveal that Motorola is also looking to expand its team in various cities. "They are aggressively looking to expand their team in Delhi and other cities post the success of MotoG and MotoX," said a source close to development.
As for Flipkart, the online platform continues to remain the first choice for international smart phone brands to leverage on its logistics capabilities across the country and technology expertise. Lead competitors like Snapdeal and Amazon have trailed when it comes to attracting international brands for exclusive tie ups.
